About me

Get to know me a little bit – who I am, what I do, how I work and what I enjoy

This is me

Hi! I'm Joshua. You have probably noticed that by now.

I'm one of the frontend guys. Well, I do enjoy Frontend Web-Development, anyways.

In fact, that is only part of me. I'm also an animal person, a garden person, a food person and some more.

I was a late bloomer for the frontend. I first got a bachelors in Psychology, then worked at a herb and tee wholesaler, before I taught myself how to program. I've been working professionally since 2017. If you want more details on that, take a look at my CV.

You can follow me on these social media platforms:

It's a joke. I don't have any active presence.
It's an image of me

What I do

I like doing things, creating things and also consuming things. I guess that is true for most people, really. Let me try to get a little more specific.

Here are a few things I like especially*:

  • Building websites
  • Thinking about and building design systems
  • Trying to build an eco-friendly and sustainable garden
  • Petting cats and dogs
  • Making and drinking coffee
  • Learning new things or trying to fix things
  • Going for walks
  • Listening to music
  • Spending time with my girlfriend
  • Cooking and eating
  • Watching random things on youtube

This list is incomplete. Just like the Backstreet Boys.

How I work

As said, I'm one of the Frontend guys. I really like working there, but look to stretch further still.

My aim is to create good experiences. In doing so, I focus on performance, a clean & usable UI, accessibility and a sprinkle of joy. The hero will always be content and I'm trying to convey that as well as possible.

These are some of the corner stones:

  • Typescript for structure

A clean and well typed codebase is important to me, to a great extend.

Typing helps reduce errors, work faster and communicate intent when working together.

  • CSS for design

I really enjoy CSS and I lean heavily on it. It's insanely capable and relying on good practices makes it very scalable.

Our* own design systems acts as a great foundation for that.

  • Accessibility for inclusivity

Humans are diverse and trying to make it work for everyone is difficult, but should be strived for.

Following and learning about accessibility helps me make it work for more people.

  • Embracing the platform

I am building websites and apps to be run on a browser and they have their strengths and weaknesses.

Working with them, instead of against them helps with consistency, user expectations and stability

* Built with a friend and constantly worked on.

Fun Facts about me

  • I think people should care more for each other, the animals and the environment.
  • I dislike swimming and am very bad at it. It feels like a struggle.
  • I've grown to prefer light mode in my apps.
  • I do not know any fun party tricks. I also rarely go to any parties, so I guess that is okay.
